An exhibition of major installations by established international video artists. Each room, accommodated a single work, and the shift from one area to another was determined by the rhythm suggested by the formal differences of the works on display: colour or black/white, sound or silence, narrative or abstract, animated or interactive.

The aim of Guardami - Percezione del video (Look at me - Video Perception) is not about tracing a history of contemporary art relying on the form of video, but focusing on the multiple possibilities to perceive a work of art in motion (whether it is on video or on film). Wall projections, multiple projections, videosculptures and interactive works will be weaving a surprisingly varied path. The point of view of the observer will constantly have to conform to the ‘requests’ and the visual conventions dictated by selected works, following the way they are set up in the space or the technology animating their spirit making their appearance possible. The visitor attention (forced to constantly shift position and to consequently change its point of view) will be therefore constantly kept awake.

The general conditions of the space (complete dark, partial illumination, empty spaces, presence or absence of objects or technical equipment), besides the diversity of supports and of operative procedures of the works, will contribute to make such journey into art in motion a sensorial experience rich of stimulations. Monitors, videowalls, projections on unusual surfaces will be only a part of the possible combinations the audience will be invited to look the work of art at.

Every room, with just a few exceptions, will be hosting one work, and passage through different environments will be articulated by the rhythm suggested by the formal differences of works on show: color or black&white, sound or silence, narration or abstraction, animation or interactivity.

Selected historical works by video art pioneers such as Gary Hill, Nam June Paik, Bruce Naumann, Tony Oursler and Bill Viola will be coupled to works by Candice Breitz, Jessica Bronson, Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, David Cotterrell, Stan Douglas, Mona Hatoum, Sejla Kameric, William Kentridge, Mark Leckey, Zilla Leutenegger, Sefir Memisoglu, Giovanni Ozzola, Paulette Philips, Pipilotti Rist, Mika Rottenberg, Studio Azzurro, Diana Thater, Marzia Migliora and Elisa Sighicelli, Gillian Wearing and from the permanent collection works by Bianco-Valente and Niamh O’Malley.
